Ambassador (r.) David Huebner


David Huebner has more than 25 years’ experience as an arbitrator or advocate in international, investment, and complex commercial arbitrations. He has particular expertise in technology and life sciences disputes but has handled matters across a wide range of industry sectors, legal issues, and geographic regions. Currently resident in California, he hears cases internationally and has in the past been based for extended periods in Tokyo, Shanghai, and New York.

His diverse professional background informs his approach to decision-making, process, and efficiency. In addition to practicing law at large firms, he has served as U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand, founding chief representative of a law office in China, chairman of an international law firm, chairman of the California Law Revision Commission, and adviser to a member of Japan’s National Diet.

  • On 15 March 2018, Amb. Huebner spoke on current issues in international arbitration at the USC/Gould School of Law Third Annual Symposium in Los Angeles.
  • The week of 16 April 2018, Amb. Huebner will be in Sydney, Australia attending the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) Congress and giving in-house presentations on international arbitration and IP topics.
  • On 16 May 2018, Amb. Huebner will be speaking in Seattle at the Spring meeting of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) on what a successful international arbitration looks like from the arbitrator’s perspective.
